Henry Hudson

In 1602 Henry Hudson started exploring with his own crew.  Their goal was to find the Northwest passage way to the Indies.  They sailed on a ship called Half Moon.  On their way they found a harbor and a river that flowed into it.  Hudson thought that the river would be the right way to go.  But once he realized that it became too shallow he knew it wasn’t the right way.  While still on the way they reached local Indian tribes.  Hudson traded a piece of metal for furs.  In 1610 England hired Hudson to find the Northwest passage way.  He was sure he found the Northwest passage way when he discovered a 450 mile long passage way.  The passage way later called the Hudson straight led to a large bay in what is now called the Hudson Bay.  Hudson kept searching the shores of the bay for a water route to the Pacific Ocean.  When Winter set the bay froze and Hudson and his crew spent a hard Winter in a log hut.  Soon the weather warmed and they went back to sailing.  When an angry crew came and put him and his son on a boat and they were never heard from again.  I think what happened was that they were on the boat to long and starved.
